Ah, so this is what a “green” house looks like

Written By: Kathy Price-Robinson - Jul• 01•07

JivexjncThis new Claremont house looks pretty normal, right? But thanks to homeowners Vern and Deb Jahnke, and their team of architects and builders, this house is way green.

Here’s what makes it so:

• Oriented so rooftop solar panels are at most effective angle.

• Made of Rastra block, which is recycled Styrofoam and concrete.

• Designed so afternoon breezes sweep hot air up and out of house.

• Bamboo floors.

• Counters made of recycled newsprint and resin.

• Carpeting made of corn. And more.

I saw this house being built and am amazed at what it looks like as the finished product. I am so happy for Deb and Vern and hope that they enjoy many happy years in this home.
Deb, I want you to come up to Redding and give me ideas for my home!!
