CslbAn electrical contractor operating in Burbank at 211 N. Victory Blvd. under the name of City Wide Electric, Lic. No. 873106 (look up the license number here), is being investigated by the California Contractors State License Board for allegedly ripping off customers. According to the board, the company, which operates under several names across the state, runs huge phone book ads to get customers, then "pressures the customer into unneeded repairs. Insider Tip: When checking on a contractor’s license at this site, note the number. The newer licenses are the 800000 series, while licenses issued years ago will be the in 400000 to 700000 series. The lower the number, the longer the contractor has had the license, unless it was abandoned to start a new company or change the name of the company. Generally speaking, you want to do business with someone who has been licensed for a long time.
