I came across a very lovely remodeled bathroom on the site of the Arizona Daily Star. Normally I love walls and floors of tile and stone. And I always love niches to display artwork, either hangings, paintings or sculpture. But this particular niche lined with dramatic slate tile seems to overwhelm the sculpture it's designed to highlight. In my perfect world, the walls of a niche are either artwork in themselves or create a neutral setting for art to shine. What do you think? Does a niche lined with dark tile set off this sculpture, or overwhelm it?
