Deadly beds

If you have one of these beds, contact the importer for a repair kit for the toy chest lid.

These kids’ beds, imported by Bayside Furnishings of San Diego, are handsome, no doubt about that. Unfortunately, they are also potentially deadly and have been recalled.

Already one toddler was killed in Placer County, Calif., when the lid of the toy chest fell on his neck and trapped him.

More than 9,000 of these beds were sold through Costco and furniture retail stores nationwide and from January 2006 through May 2008 for between $700 and $1,400.

If you have one of these, stop using it immediately, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises, and contact the importer for a repair kit.

You can contact Bayside at (877) 494-2536, or visit the firm’s Web site at to register online for the free repair kit.
